Ghillie Dhu

Rabbie Burns Experience at the Ghillie Dhu

Rabbie Burns

We’re known for our infamous Burly Ceilidh club so of course we have to throw the best Burns night party!

A Burns supper is a celebration of the life and poetry of the great Robert Burns but we don’t think just celebrating the life of our national Bard on his birthday (25th January) is enough so we have over a week of celebrations for everyone to join in on, running from the 18th – 27th January.

We make sure to include all the traditional elements, a piper on arrival, a toast to the haggis with a reading of Burns’ Address to a Haggis, traditional Scottish folk music and of course a rip roaring ceilidh!

Rabbie Burns

Address to a haggis is one of Robert Burns’ most famous and regularly performed poems, written in 1786 not long after Burns arrived In Edinburgh.

Why he wrote the poem is not clear however it is agreed it would have been written to be performed at a dinner as in those days haggis was revered as a luxury item.

Traditionally the haggis is accompanied into the room by a piper and carried to a central location where the address to the haggis is performed to celebrate the Scottish national dish.

Rabbie Burns

Our Rabbie Burns experience is perfect for all, whether you be a visitor to our great city or a local just looking for a fun night out with a difference, we guarantee that this will be an experience to remember.

For a more informal affair we also celebrate in our main bar with a delicious 3 course meal which includes the full address performed by our resident piper on selected nights.

We Dhu Innis and Gunn

innis & Gunn

This summer, we’ve paired up with our friends at Innis and Gunn to bring you something new – the Ghillie Garden! Even though Scottish summers usually leave something to be desired when it comes to sunshine, we’ve created the perfect spot to soak up those rays.

Our mini oasis surrounded can provide a well needed moment of calm from the hustle and bustle of the city, especially during the Fringe! You can recharge, relax and grab some tasty Scottish food and sample some of the delights of our Innis and Gunn pop up bar.

If you haven’t sampled the delights of Innis and Gunn before, we can certainly recommend it! Innis and Gun Lager is made in small batches with Naked Golden Oats, great Scottish pride and exuberance, all which give it its full flavour and very smooth finish.

This pale gold lager has a crisp and light taste, with soft aromatic hops and a rich creaminess from the oats. All of this makes for a smooth and refreshing finish – a perfect drink to accompany a warm summers day or as an after work perk watching the world go by from our garden!

And then if you start to feel a little bit peckish; food can be served outside with our a la carte menu available from 11am every day. So that’s your lunch hour, festival pit stop and after work drink venue sorted all in one.
